Why Dustbin Film Shows ?
Before getting a chance to rescue them most of the films used had been discarded in a dustbin. For the survivors somebody was there to rescue it before dumping.
A few dedicated collectors have realised that here is a historical resource that should be saved. While that may sound terribly earnest they can be jolly entertaining to watch. Audiences have been seen nearly crying with laughter, watching "up to date" techniques being demonstrated.
Topics can include Construction machinery, Agricultural Machinery of the 1930s and 40s, Agricultural machinery of the 50s and 60s , Civil Aviation, Shipbuilding, Deepwater Shipping, Military training, Road Transport , Motoring, Mechanical Handling, Livestock, Canada, Australia, and British Countryside.
As well as open sessions, special presentations can be made as after dinner entertainment, for conferences, club and society meetings, functions and fundraising.
Featured are 16mm films originally made to sell or demonstrate "modern" machinery and practices. As these films are now between 30 and 60 years old the machinery is now vintage. As a result these films are of great interest to historians and researchers. Even in their used condition a 16mm can offer much sharper definition and picture quality than a video. Indeed few of these films are even available on video.
The final choice of programme is often made by the audience from a selection of films available at the venue.
Each film represent a unique historical resource with a finite life. Every screening diminishes this, so each screening should reach as big an audience as possible.
As well as open sessions, special presentations can be made for after dinner entertainment, or for conferences, club and society meetings, functions and fundraising.
The shows are held at venues around England and Wales often with historic links to the machinery featured. Many in the audience have a specialist interest in the subject so spot and comment on unusual machines and techniques featured.
